Television is arguably once again in its golden age. Technological advances and bigger budgets have translated to stunning visuals, and the creative license given to screenwriters means that stories are now more compelling than ever.
Streaming services like Netflix and Hulu have also revolutionized the industry by delivering one of the holy grails of customer satisfaction: instant gratification. Not to mention, with social networking websites like Twitter allowing for real-time discussions, television programs have gained cult followings that the previous generations seldom saw.
In other words, we are freakin' spoiled.
Anna and I are self-professed
couch potatos binge-watching television aficionados. Anna had streamed Marco Polo TWICE in under 48 hours, and I personally watched all six seasons of Sex and the City in a mere few weeks.
Combine great television with a hank and a hook, and we're set. There's just something comforting about snuggling on your couch after a hard day at work and channel surfing until you find something that catches your attention. Or for you streamers out there, browsing by genre until you find the show or movie to waste the next three hours on.
Can't think of what to watch? Not to worry, because we've got you covered. We've put together a list of our all-time favorites to binge watch while crafting. Why binge watch? We find that it helps maintain your focus while working on a project, and even if you tune out for a bit it's not the end of the world.
Sigh, who are we kidding - it's fun, so why the hell not. Here are our faves, in no particular order:
Sex and the City (HBO/HBO GO)
Sure, the show may have ended over a decade ago, but its humor and drama is more relevant than ever in 2015. Four women living in New York - there's bound to be drama.
The 100 (Netflix/The CW)
Surviving in a post-apocalyptic world isn't easy - just ask the 100 individuals the show is named after. I like to think of the show as a hybrid between Lost and Terra Nova with a touch of teen drama à la Vampire Diaries.
Breaking Bad (AMC/Netflix)
You've either seen it and love it, or know someone who's seen it and loved it. The show's beautiful cinematography and character transformations is just two of the reasons why we can't get enough of it. [PS. how badass do they look with that crochet blanket in the background?]
Battlestar Gallactica (Sci-Fi)
Not only is this critically acclaimed by newspapers and magazines across the continent, it's got the Anna stamp of approval. You don't have to love sci-fi to get hooked on this series.
Bojack Horseman (Netflix)
Bojack is Netflix's experiment with the adult cartoon genre, and it's been a hit with viewers. What's not to like about a talking washed-up sitcom actor who happens to be a horse?
Modern Family (ABC)
This one happens to be Anna's all time favorite, and with good reason - Its funny, lighthearted humor is a winner with all ages. She literally watches it every night before going to sleep.
Silicon Valley (HBO/HBO GO)
I've watched both seasons twice now, and I'm not even close to getting sick of it. Who would have thought a show about a tech startup would be so hilarious?
Downton Abbey (PBS/Netflix)
A show with great acting, simple but compelling storylines, and beautiful costumes. We're sad for the series to finish next year!
Amazing Race (CBS)
Amazing Race is one of my favorite shows of all time. If there's a show in which you're constantly shouting at the TV in anger, this is the one! The latest season is premiering September 25th!
Beautifully written and shot, Vikings is just one of the shows known for its cinema-like quality. From the gorgeous sceneries to the epic battle scenes.. we love it all! Plus it's a Canadian show, so we're pretty proud.
Sons of Anarchy (FX/Netflix)
Charlie Hunnam (who happens to be Travis Fimmel of Vikings' doppelganger) plays Jax Teller, the VP of a badass biker club who struggles between the illegal, the immoral and the necessary.
These are our faves - what's yours? Let us know in the comments below.. and happy binge watching!!
